MIDDLESBORO — J. L. Sparks, age 76, Middlesboro, KY passed away Monday, June 2, 2014 in the UT Medical Center in Knoxville, TN. He was born July 22, 1937 in Monroe, MI, the son of the late Harrison Elmer Sparks and Roberta Braden Sparks. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers: Walter Sparks and Donald Sparks. He believed in the Baptist faith.
Dad (J.L.) loved his family and was very proud of them. He called his two daughters "His Girls". They were his pride and joy. He adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also loved his brothers and sisters, retiring back to Middlesboro to be close to them. J. L. grew up in a home where his parents instilled the Baptist Faith which he followed throughout his life. He enjoyed fishing on Lake Erie in Monroe, Michigan, walking the trails in Cumberland Gap, TN and four-wheeling with his brothers in the Kentucky mountains. He really loved spending time with his family especially hanging out at the Sparks Trucking Garage and all the family get togethers.
He is survived by his daughters: Georgia Gipson, Bridgman, MI and Janit Sparks, Buchanan, MI; grandchildren: Jasmine Gipson, Tyler Gipson, Jason Yavorsky and Tiara Pope; great-grandchildren: Trevor Toeppe, Jayden Carder, Sophia Pope, Kaleb , Blake, Jaxon, and Kenndy Yavorsky; sisters: Wilma Feketia, Monroe, MI, Imogene Wells, Middlesboro, and Andrea (Larry)Yeary, Middlesboro; brothers: David (Ethel) Sparks, Middlesboro, Roger (Delenna) Sparks, Middlesboro, Gary (Janine) Sparks, Middlesboro; sister-in-law, Sue Sparks, Middlesboro and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be 8 p.m., Friday, June 6, 2014 at Shumate Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Murphy Buell officiating. Graveside service will be 11 a.m., Saturday, June 7, 2014 at Sparks Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m., Friday, June 6, 2014 at Shumate Funeral Home Chapel.
