MONTICELLO — Ray Calloway Howard, 92, of Monticello, KY, passed away Friday, February 7, at the Lake Cumberland Hospital Hospice Center in Somerset, KY. He was born January 25, 1922 at Insull, KY, the son of the late Bird and Nora Ealy Howard. He was a veteran of World War II, having served his country honorably in the United States Army. He had been a coal miner for 42 years in Kentucky and Ohio.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers: Ralph and Elmer, two sisters: Sabeary Roark and Geneva Roskie.
He was married in 1941 to Haley Slusher Howard, his first wife and the mother of his children, Eulah (Wendell) Johnson, Mary Humphreys, Emma Euell, Jewel Boyden and Robert (Liz) Howard. A second son, Byrdwin (Caroline) Howard was from his second marriage.
He was grandfather to 12 and great-grandfather to 16.
He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 11, at the Pathfork Holiness Church with the Rev. Everett Eads and the Rev. J.C. Craig presiding. Interment will follow in the Saylor Cemetery at Pathfork, KY. His great-grandsons are honored to serve as pallbearers. The family received friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, February 10, at the Pathfork Holiness Church.
