CUMBERLAND GAP, Tenn. — T.J. Asher, 78, of Cumberland Gap, TN passed away Saturday, June 28, 2014.
He was born January 8, 1936 in Leslie County, Kentucky, the son of James and Mellie Saylor Asher who preceded him in death, along with brother, John Asher.
He proudly served his country in the United States Army and was a longtime member of the American Legion Dewey Guy Post # 14 of Middlesboro. He was a member of the Middlesboro Elks Lodge B.P.O.E # 119 for at least 50 years.
He is survived by the following members of his family:

Son: Joe (Kathy) Asher of Speedwell, TN, Jerry (Carla) Asher of Arthur, TN
3 Grandchildren: Nicholas Price, Abbigail Asher, J.T. Asher
Sister: Dorothy Jarvis of Cumberland Gap, TN, Vestina Saylor of Stoney Fork, KY, Marie Depriest of Speedwell, TN
Brother: Daniel Asher of Cumberland Gap, TN
Special nieces and nephews: Charles and Ruth White, Jenny and Danny Turner, Susan Chedester, Lynette and Mark Shadoan, Jacob and Jessie Lewis, Verlis and Sue Jarvis, Rodney and Doris Jarvis, Larry Asher, Gary and Holly Asher, John Asher II and Jessica, Brian Farley and sons, Julie Thomas and family, Anita Herter and family Carolyn and Homer Brock, Ralph Saylor, Anita and Johnny Bolton, Belinda Asher, Kimberly Williams and a host of Grandnieces and Nephews especially Tenley Thomas.
Funeral services will be held at 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 1, at the Creech Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Timothy Goins presiding. Music will be provided by Wanda Paul, Bobby Partin and Christina Blanton. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 2, at the Green Hills Mausoleum with Military Honors being presented by the American Legion Dewey Guy Post # 14 of Middlesboro. Pallbearers will be Joe Asher, Jerry Asher, Greg Williamson, Davin Miller, Nicholas Price, Rob Vandorselaer, J.T. Asher and Billy Poore. Honorary Pallbearers will be his nephews.
