MIDDLESBORO — Thomas Jefferson Roberts,Jr. Esquire, 73, of Middlesboro, Ky, passed away August 14,2014 in the Middlesboro ARH Hospital. Tommy was born on April 8,1941, in Cleveland ,Ohio, the Son of the late Mary Nester and Thomas Jefferson Roberts. He graduated from Middlesboro High School in 1958,where he was a member of the 1953 little league inaugural team, boxed Golden gloves, ran cross country and played tennis. Tommy attended Eastern, Ky State University, East Tennessee, and Lincoln Memorial where he earned degrees in History and Political Science. He attended the University of Kentucky School of Law, where he graduated in 1966 and was admitted to the Kentucky State Bar that same year.

Tommy was also a graduate of the following; National Seminar on Criminal Law, Washington, D.C., National District Attorneys Association, Fifth Medical Institute for Attorneys, Miami, Fl., Careen Prosecutors Course, National College of District Attorneys, Houston, TX. Admitted to practice before the U.S. Tax Court, U.S. District Court for Eastern, Ky, U.S. Court of Appeals,

He served as county Attorney from 1970-1974 and was the city attorney for Middlesboro at one time. Tommy was a 48 year member of the Ky. Bar Association. Prior to his retirement he acted as contract counsel with Ky. Dept. of Transportation.

Tommy was a member of the First Baptist Church, Jaycees, and sons of the American Legion, Elks Lodge # 119. His greatest love was his family and friends, of he had many. Between his career and involvement in many civic cases he was able to touch the lives of many. He had a passion for law and was always up for a great debate whether he was at work or at home. He will be truly missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife, Pamela Witt. In addition to his wife he is survived by his daughters from the late Lydia Adele Roberts; Beverly Roberts of Nantucket, Ma., Dr. Shannon Roberts of Lexington, and Courtney Gayle Roberts of Lexington, daughter of Susan Knuckles; Mary Madeline Roberts of New York; grandchildren Julie Adele Bedard, Harper and James Roberts all of Lexington.

Graveside service to be held Saturday, August 23, 2014 at 11:00 am at Hurst Cemetery North 25th and Hurst road in Middlesboro, Ky. There will be a celebration of his life immediately following at the Elks Lodge at 1670 North 25th in Middlesboro, Ky. In lieu of flower donations in Tommy's name may be made to Children Hospital.
