MIDDLESBORO — Jesse Adkins, age 87, Middlesboro, KY passed away Thursday, December 5, 2013 at Middlesboro Appalachian Regional Hospital. He was born August 12, 1926 in Huntington, WV, the son of the late Albert Adkins and Clara Smith Adkins. He was a member of Bennetts Fork Baptist Church and a Navy Veteran of World War II. He worked for the City of Middlesboro until he retired. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Helena Adkins; brother, James Adkins; and niece, Jan Johnson.
He is survived by Sandra Moyers, caretaker, whom he loved like a daughter; sister-in-law, Juanita Whitaker; nephews and nieces: Darin Adkins, Tootie Gordon, Wilma (Eddie) Daniel, Shirley (Irvin) Napier, Helen (Von) Russell, Kay Wilder, Bobby (Arietta) Whitaker, Wendell (Betty) Whitaker, and Gary (Becky) Gordon; special family members: Summer (Justin) Hughett and children, Hayden and Aubree Hughett, Freddy (Julie) Dixon, Elizabeth (Wes) Smallwood, and Monica McNew and Allison Sabo; special friend, John Senters, and several cousins and friends. Special thanks to Dr. Kaw and MARH nursing staff.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m., Sunday, December 8, 2013 at Shumate Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Don Bannister and Bro. John Senters officiating. Music will be provided by Alva Cunningham. Pallbearers will be Gary Gordon, John Senters, James Smith, David Redmond, Eddie Daniel, and Wesley Smallwood. Interment will follow in Green Hills Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m., Saturday, December 7, 2013 at Shumate Funeral Home Chapel.
