MIDDLESBORO — Walter "Ikie" Givens, 89, of Middlesboro, passed away on Thursday, June 19, 2014 at the Middlesboro Appalachian Regional Hospital. He was born in Meldrum on May 30, 1925, a son of the late Harvey and Julie Owens Givens. He was of the Baptist Faith and had been the Parts manager for Cumberland Ford, retirind after 40 years of work. He proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II serving in the Asiatic Pacific, Philippine and European African Middle Eastern areas.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Frankie Hendrickson Givens and brothers, Roy and Carl Givens.

Survivors include his children; Glenda Wayne Cox; Walter "Toby" and Sherry Givens; Julie and S.B. Minor and Rose Ethel and Jim Wilson; grandchildren Monica and Charlie Ray; Aaron Cox; Cheri and Robert Caldwell; Sean and Tamara Freeman; seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; brother and sisters, Maudie and Odell Hurst; Bertha Shelton; Rosie Givens, Cecil Givens and Goldie Spencer; special friend, Esther Sandifer; and friends, Rev. Shelby Money and everyone at McDonald's and Kroger and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Services will be at 3:00 PM Sunday at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Chapel with Rev. John Ledger and Rev. Clayton Barton. Music will be by Tomassa Risner. Burial will be in the Hendrickson Cemetery at Ferndale with Family and Friends serving as pallbearers. Military Honors will be presented by the American Legion Dewey Guy Post 14 of Middlesboro.
