MIDDLESBORO — Shelby Jean Brewer Smith, 77, a resident of Middlesboro, KY passed away on June 20, 2014 at the UK Chandler Medical Center in Lexington, KY.

She was born on May 8, 1937 in Fork Ridge, TN, the daughter of the later Bert Brewer and Pruney Mae Kidd Brewer. She was united in marriage on December 19, 1953 to Tommy Smith. She was a member of the Mill Creek Baptist Church of Kettle Island, KY. Mrs. Smith was a retired employee of the Bell County School System where she served as a cook for 39 years at the Right Fork and Yellow Creek School Centers. She was devoted housewife, a loving mother, and grandmother.

In addition to her parents Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by the following members of her family: her husband of 52 years, Tommy Smith, four sisters: Hazel Partin, Eula Widener, Beulah Brewer, and Evelyn Wyatt, one brother: Bert Brewer.

She is survived by the following members of her family:

2 Sons: Ronnie Lee (Alisa) Smith of Fourmile, KY, Rev. Dennis Jackie (Margie) Smith of Middlesboro, KY

1 Daughter: Mary Elizabeth Smith (Keith Saylor) of Flat Lick, KY

4 Grandchildren: Amanda (Shane) Patterson, Matthew (Carrie) Smith, Katheryne (Casey) Patrick, Devan Fehr

4 Great-Grandchildren: Shelby Elizabeth Patterson, Jacklynn Rose Patrick, Lucas Kyle Patterson, Carter Thomas Smith

1 Sister: Annice (William) Thorton of Kokomo, IN

And a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 24, at the Creech Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating ministers are her son, Rev. Dennis Jackie Smith and Rev. Murphy Buell. Music will be provided by The Park Hill Baptist Church Singers of Corbin, KY, Mickey Wilder, and Larry Dickerson.

Interment will follow at the Green Hills Memorial Gardens, with prayer by Rev. Jackie Smith and special song by Casey Patrick. Pallbearers will be Matthew Smith, Devan Fehr, Shane Patterson, Casey Patrick, Doron Smith, Jimmy Dixon, Ray Mason, Justin Mason, Nolan Mason, and David Ray Teague. Honorary pallbearers will be: Rev. Sam Bill Smith, Carl Wyatt, William Thorton, Michael Partin, Jerry Partin, Stevie Wyatt, Johnny Wyatt, James Thorton, and Geral Thorton.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Monday, June 23, at the Creech Funeral Home. Online condolences and guestbook are available at
