MIDDLESBORO — Jeanette Olivia Costner Baker, age 88, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, July 4, 2014. She was born May 14, 1926, the only daughter of five children born to the late Eugene Costner and Altonette LeDuff Costner. She was a dedicated member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church of Middlesboro, Kentucky and licensed funeral director. She was active in the following church committees: Senior Choir, kitchen preparation and served in the pulpit aid until her health began to decline.
She made her home with her loving and dedicated son, Larry Charles Ransom. Jeanette was a 1943 graduate of Lincoln High School. She enjoyed life and spending time with her friends and family. Jeanette was known for her smile and putting smiles onto the faces of people she met.
Jeanette was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Altonette Costner; husband, Lloyd Baker; three brothers: Vincent, William (Bill Jones) and Nathan Costner. Left to mourn her passing is her son, Larry Charles Ransom; brother, Julian (Esther) Costner; special friends: Katie Cox, Stan and Mildred Alexander, and Jacqueline Whitt; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
Funeral will be 2 p.m., Thursday, July 10, 2014 at Shumate Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. James Chesney officiating. Music will be provided by Mt. Moriah Baptist Church Choir. The family will receive friends 1-2 p.m., Thursday, July 10, 2014 at Shumate Funeral Home Chapel. The family asks for your prayers as they endure this difficult time.
