MIDDLESBORO — Verlan Lee Gray, 73, ended his life long journey to his heavenly home on Wednesday, Aug 6, 2014, with his family at his side.
He was born Feb 17, 1941, in Middlesboro, KY to the late Milford and Hazel Cooper Gray. He was a member of the Binghamtown Baptist Church. He retired from Montgomery Ward as an Auto Service Manager after 33 years.
Verlan was an avid deer and turkey hunter, horseman, race car driver, fisherman and a true blue Kentucky fan.
He was preceded in death by the following members of his family:
Children: Mark Andrew Gray and Chesney Lynn Gray.
Sisters: Freida Collingsworth and Linda Miracle.
He is survived by the following members of his family:
Wife: Alice Faye Treece Gray
Children: Richard Lee (Shirley) Gray, Rhonda Elaine (Everette) Farmer, Elizabeth Anne (Gary) Holbrook and a special hunting buddy Tim Hoskins.
Grandchildren: Steven R. Lambert, Jennifer C. Gray, Christopher Lee Gray, Eric Lee Gray, Zachariah Andrew (Rebecca) Holbrook, Geremiah Arthur Holbrook, Mercedes Julianna Farmer and Andrew Lee Gray.
The greatest joys of his last four years were: Trevan Asher Gray and Henry Lee Gray, his great grand boys.
He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, Aug 9, at Creech Funeral Home with Dr. William Boyd Bingham presiding. Music will be provided by Alvie Cunningham.
Interment will be at Green Hills Memorial Gardens
His grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
