News Death Notice

STIGALL, Edward Earl Sr. "Ed" was born on December 11, 1938 in Somerset, KY and departed this life on Thursday, July 26, 2012 at McCullough-Hyde Hospital. Ed was the son of Dorothy West Stigall Fitzpatrick and Major Authur Stigall. His stepfather was Jacob Edward Fitzpatrick. Ed was raised in Somerset, KY and was the last class to graduate from the all-black Dunbar High School in 1956. Ed joined First Baptist Church and was baptized early in his childhood. In 1959, Ed moved to Oxford, OH, where he lived the remainder of his life. He was a dedicated member at First Baptist Church and served on the deacon board. It was there he married Thyra Jean Dickerson, the love of his life. They were married for 49 years and had two children. Ed was employed by the U.S. Post Office and retired after 39 years of service. Ed was a kind, gentle, soft-spoken person, who never said a lot, but when he did, it spoke volumes. He loved his family, fishing, bowling, cards and helping others. Ed is preceded in death by his mother, father, stepfather and grandparents Wesley and Kitty West; two brothers, Ralph Henry Stigall, Sr. and Jackie Stigall. He is survived by his wife: Thyra Jean Stigall, children: Gina Louise Stigall and Edward E. Stigall, Jr., granddaughter: Virginia Jean Stigall and sister: Caroline Fitzpatrick Jones and many nephews, nieces and friends. Services for Ed were on August 1st at First Baptist Church, Oxford.

It is so difficult to deal with the passing of a dear long time friend and always so hard to compile the right words. The best one can do is simply speak from the heart and mind. We knew Ed for so many years and prayed that he would conquer the many afflictions he endured. Ed was such a good person, so amiable, helpful, caring with his own unique sense of humor. He never uttered an ill word of anyone and served his community for many years. His presence will be sorely missed but we know Ed is at peace and walks with God. The pictures of Ed will always be cherished as they convey some wonderful times with him. Our deepest condolences go out to his family, friends and acquaintances who also share the loss of Ed. Goodbye old friend and hopefully we will be reunited one day. In loving memory, Janet and Bill Reynolds.
