JOHN RISTAINO

RISTAINO, CAPTAIN JOHN (MORELLO) Captain John Ristaino, 86, of Upland, California passed away peacefully in his sleep on 7/17/2014 at Emeritus Memory Care, Corona, CA, surrounded by loved ones. John was born May 29th 1928 in New York State to Mr. & Mrs. Gennerino Ristaino. John’s mother Cleonice later married John’s stepfather Mr. Louis Morello. John grew up in Cromwell, CT, in the family home on Hicksville Rd. It was here that he met his lifelong and childhood friend, Victor B. Rook Sr. John went into the service at 18 and served as a Sargent with the Army Air Core. John went on to be a graduate of Embry – Riddle Aeronautical University in Florida. He was hired at Eastern Airlines in the early 50’s where he meet his wife, Carolyn Rogers. They moved out to California in 1956 and started a family. He was hired by the Flying Tigers Airlines as a Pilot & Chief Engineer. John did extremely well and in the 70’s became a Captain for Flying Tigers flying the 747 planes worldwide! He retired in 1988 and became President of the Flying Tigers Retired Pilot Association. John had the “Tiger Spirit” until the day he passed. He was a 40 year resident of Upland, CA. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Carolyn N. Ristaino and 3 adult children; son, John L Ristaino of Key Largo, FL, daughter Cleonice N. Ristaino of Sherman Oaks, CA, and son, Sterling A. Ristaino of Upland, CA. John was a great man and a dear friend and will be dearly missed by loved ones and friends. Chapel prayers will be at the Stone Funeral Home 355 E 9th Street in Upland, CA 91786 on 7-28-2014. A burial with Military Honors will follow at Riverside National Cemetery, 22495 Van Buren Riverside, CA 92518, Area #4.
