Joseph Belniak

Joseph Belniak, 92, of Cromwell, beloved husband of the late Sophie (Masztal) Belniak, died Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at his home. He was born in Middletown, son of the late George and Sophie (Ferusz) Belniak. He was a veteran of World War II serving with the U.S. Army. Prior to retirement, he was a trimmer for Wallace- Silversmith. Joe enjoyed golf, cribbage with his buddies, and duckpin bowling which he introduced to his children. He enjoyed watching all sports and usually rooted for the underdog but his first love was the Red Sox and his favorite golfer Fuzzy Zoeller.
His children are eternally grateful to have him not only as their father but was also their hero. Though suffering through arthritis for so many years he always kept his spirit up and continued to be the guiding light of the family.
Joseph is survived by two sons, Daniel Belniak of Middletown, Philip Belniak of Cromwell; two daughters, Carol Ann Bunk and her husband, John of East Hartford, Mary Ann Cochefski of Cromwell; a granddaughter, Kristen Cochefski and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, James Belniak, his daughter, Theresa Belniak, two brothers, Stanley and Frank Belniak and four sisters, Mary Moskey, Helen Belniak, Stella Macri and Frances Sabat.
The family would also like to thank Mariellen Vogt and Jennifer Coratelli for their wonderful care of our dad these past years and to his special groups of friends for companionship, friendship and love throughout so many years.
Funeral services will be held Saturday (Jan. 19th) at 8:15 a.m. from Biega Funeral Home, 3 Silver St., Middletown, followed by a 9 a.m. Funeral Liturgy at St. Mary Church, Middletown. Burial, with military honors, will be in Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call at Biega Funeral Home on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. Those who wish may send memorial contributions to St. Mary's Church, 79 S.
