Sebastian Vincent Amenta, 86, of Cromwell, beloved husband of Mary (Banamassa) Amenta for 61 years, passed away on his 86th birthday, Monday, July 8th at Middlesex Hospital. Born in Cromwell, he was the son of the late Antonino and Lucia (Rosano) Amenta. Sebby lived in Cromwell all of his life and was a member and a Trustee of Saint John Church. He was a veteran of WWII
serving in the United States Navy
. He was a member of the Cromwell Fire Commission from 1981-1992, a member of Board of Selectman from 1971-1979, the Knights of Columbus DeSoto Council #6, 3rd & 4th Degree, the American Legion Carlson-Sjovall Post #105 since 1946, the Rocky Hill VFW
Post #2138, and the IBEW Local #35. Sebby loved going to the cottage at the Cape, traveling to Florida, reading by the river and following the New York Yankees but most of all loved his family and his friends.
Along with his wife, he is survived by four children, Tony Amenta of Melbourne, FL, Lucy Amenta-Iannucci of Cromwell, Michael Amenta of Middletown and Joseph Amenta of Cromwell; five sisters, Minnie Marino, Constance Halstead, Jennie Amenta, Lillian Cota, all of Cromwell and Marie Milardo of Portland; ten grandchildren; three great grandchildren and his dear friend, Joseph Scandura. Besides his parents, Sebby was predeceased by two sisters, Angela Arcidiacono and Anne Bradley.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 13th from the Cromwell Funeral Home, 506 Main Street, Cromwell at 9:00 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am at Saint John Church in Cromwell. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Middletown where military honors will be accorded.
