Chrissy Swanson, 60, died early Monday morning, Nov. 19, 2012, at the Hospice of Middlesex Hospital, Middletown.
The Guest Book is expired.
She was born on June 16, 1952, in New Britain. Chrissy was the beloved daughter of the late Dr. Elmer Swanson and Flora Donlan Swanson of New Britain, Lakeville and West Hartford. In her early years, Chris attended Special Education classes in West Hartford. Since 1982, Chris has participated in the MARC Community Resources Day Program in Cromwell, where she was encouraged to live her life to the fullest. Chris and her family owe an immeasurable debt of gratitude to the supervisors and staff of the MARC Day Program, especially to Chrissy's Support Facilitator Sue Jay and Behaviorist Holly Maturo.
For the past two years, Chris has lived at the MARC 2 Group Home in Middletown. She oved the staff at MARC 2. They loved her in return and cared for her in the best way possible. Our thanks and appreciation are extended to house manager Laura Parkhouse, all the group home staff and especially to Lisa Boise. Chris was a Special Olympian par excellence. Her gold medal in swimming at the 1991 International Special Olympics in Minneapolis was one of her crowning achievements. She skied to the "Gold" At Mohawk and Sundown. In track and field events, her long jump and softball throw were something to behold. Chris was a winning bowler and an accomplished equestrian (Manes and Motions, Middletown). Chrissy loved to watch baseball, basketball and football on TV. She loved animals, her cats (KitKat and Sophia), Holly's therapy dog, Farah, and loved caring for the animals at Hungerford Park. Chris had an extraordinary sense of humor which remained undiminished even after the onset and rapid progression of dementia. Chris LOVED Scooby Doo and accumulated an extensive collection of Scooby Tapes and DVDs.
Chrissy is survived by her sister, Sandra Swanson Fries and husband Joseph Fries of Southington, and her brother John C. Swanson, Esq. of Burlington, Vt.
