Douglas E. Blowers Obituary
Douglas E. Blowers, 67, of Cromwell, beloved husband of Jacqueline (Plourde) Blowers, passed away Wednesday, February 20, 2013. Born in Ticonderoga, NY., he was the son of the late Arthur and Priscilla (Yaw) Blowers. Douglas was a graduate of Bulkeley High School class of '65, and went on to become a US Marine serving 2 tours of duty, as a helicopter mechanic, in Vietnam from '65 - '69. Once home, Douglas started working for the Hartford Electric Light Co. and retired from CL&P in 2010 after 37 and a half years. He was 1 of 8 owners of the Connecticut International Dragway from '79 – '86. Douglas was very active with Boyscout troup 26 in Cromwell, where he oversaw 18 boys make Eagle Scout while he was a scoutmaster. He will be remembered by those who knew him as a life long racer and world traveler. Besides his wife, Douglas leaves behind 2 children; daughter Melissa Blowers of Enfield, CT and fiance James Curran Jr of Westfield, MA, son Douglas Blowers, Jr., and daughter in law Simone Blowers of Sudbury, MA, Grandson, Leo Blowers, brothers Michael Bowers wife Grace Bowers of Merritt Island, FL, Dennis Blowers wife Barbara Blowers of Vernon, CT, and sister Gail Mangiofico of Port St. John, FL, and leaves behind several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins and many good friends. He was predeceased by his brother Richard Blowers. Funeral services will beTuesday at 9 a.m from the Giuliano-Sagarino Funeral Home at BROOKLAWN, 511 Brook Street, Rocky Hill followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in St John's Church, Cromwell. Interment will follow in the State Veteran's Cemetery, Middletown, with full military honors. Relatives and friends are invited to the funeral home Monday from 5-8 pm.
