REILLY, ELIZABETH R. “BETTY” Elizabeth R. “Betty” Reilly died peacefully at Middlesex Hospice on Wednesday, January 15th. Betty was born in Worcester, Massachusetts on August 14, 1922, the daughter of Carl and Catherine (Reardon) Ross. Betty, a graduate of Boston University, worked for many years at Saint Francis Hospital in Hartford. She worked closely with residents and interns for most of her professional career. When she retired, she enrolled and completed the lay ministry program through the Diocese of Norwich. She then began her second career: working within her parish community, creating and implementing many adult learning opportunities for the parish of St. Pius X Church in Middletown. Betty lived life with fervor, was dedicated to on-going education, embraced new ideas and opportunities, and was passionate about social justice concerns. She welcomed every chance to support civic endeavors, chaired numerous committees, began and implemented countless programs, feed the poor, raised funds for needy causes, and had fun along the way. She befriended many, and many were her friends. Those of us who knew her are most grateful for having known her. May she rest in eternal peace. The funeral will be held on Monday at 9am from the Coughlin-Lastrina Funeral Home, 491 High Street, Middletown, followed by a mass of Christian burial at 10am in St. Pius X Church. Burial will be in Indian Hill Cemetery, Middletown. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday morning from 9am to 9:30am.
