Elvira (Bauer) Lee, 92, of Middletown, died unexpectedly at home Sunday, February 10, 2013.She was born in Middlefield, CT., September 16, 1920, the fourth of seven children, to the late Frederich and Oralie (Counter) Bauer. She married Warren S. Lee on June 21, 1941. Elvira and Warren raised their family on the Lee Dairy Farm in Middletown. Through her love of farming she was involved in many related activities including 4H and the Durham Fair where she was an exhibitor and winner in the baking department through this past year. Other than farming, she worked at the telephone company as a switchboard operator, the Russell Company as a weaver and at the Dreher & Smith Hardware Company, where she loved to help her customers. As a more than 25 year survivor of pancreatic cancer she enjoyed traveling, gatherings with her family and friends, and returning home to the farm she loved. She saw to it that the land she cherished would remain in perpetuity for future generations.
Elvira was the mother of Shirleyanne Lee of Middletown, Sharon Diane Lee Paddock of Portland and Susan Elvira Lee-McCann of Chaplin. She was grandmother to Robert Warren Paddock, Thomas Edwin Paddock, Tracy Lee Paddock Lambert and Todd Herbert Paddock; great-grandmother to Dylan Paddock, Justin, Kristen, Lauren Lambert; great-great-grandmother to Troy and Duane Lambert. She also leaves her son-in-laws Roger Lee and Donald McCann and Sharon's companion Joseph Dinegar; sisters, Lois Smith, Lucille Merunka, Edith Gallus; brothers, Edward and David Bauer. She was predeceased by her husband, Warren and sister, Dorothy Orinski. She also leaves behind her faithful companion FRED, her cat.
Friends may call at Biega Funeral Home, 3 Silver St., Middletown on Saturday, February 23rd from 12 to 1 p.m. with a memorial service at 1 p.m. Burial will be at the convenience of her family in Farm Hill Cemetery. Mommy, it's been twelve years now....you would really like the new bathroom me and Todd are putting in....corner shower....going to look good when we finally get it done, seems to be taking a long time, but we stripped the whole room....top to bottom...I wish I could send you a picture of it. HI Mommy, Still here taking care of the farm... really alone now ...all my horses are gone...would love to get more but the cost of feeding them, the vet bills and farrier fees are more money than I have... oh well, I guess everybody is having a hard time...

Dear Susan, Don, and Family,

Dennis, Ian and I are so saddened in the passing of dearest Elvira. She was such a wonderful, kind, loving woman. She was truly a beautiful person, inside and out. Anyone who met her couldn't help but love her. She was so easy to talk to and get to know. We loved all the times spent at your home when she and Lois would be there. We always had such nice times, and those will never be forgotten. Ian and your mom really got close and shared a special connection during those 9 days we spent at your home during the ice storm in Nov, 2011. We are both so glad we had that time together. Your mom will live forever in the hearts of all who knew her. Sue, you know, she is here with you, closer than you know. You have a very special angel watching over you now.
