Irene Catalano Obituary
Irene was born April 25, 1931, in Middletown, the daughter of the late Louis and Katie (Hajec) Kokoszka. She was an avid cribbage player and liked to spend vacations at the family cottage in Clinton, CT. She also followed the NY Yankees and was a loyal fan of the UConn Women's and Men's Basketball teams.
She is survived by her son, Richard Catalano and his wife Jean of Cromwell, her daughter, Debra Gullitti and her husband Jean of Middletown, four grandchildren, Cara, Dana, and Steven Gullitti, Rikki Catalano, and two step grandchildren, Kathryn and Robyn Litzenberger. She is also survived by her sisters, Mary Mucha, Anna Jarvis, Camille Gagliardi, and Rita Adams, and her brother, Stanley Kokoszka, and also many nephews and nieces.
She was predeceased by three sisters,, Jane Cyrul, Genevieve Barchewski, and Charlotte Tewksbury, and by three brothers, John, Joseph, and Chester.
Funeral services will be held Monday, August 12th, at 10:00am, at the Biega Funeral Home, 3 Silver St., Middletown, followed by an 11:00am Funeral Liturgy in Notre Dame Church, Durham. Burial will be at Saint Sebastian's Cemetery, Middlefield. Friends may call at Biega Funeral Home, Sunday, August 11th, from 3:00pm to 6:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Irene's family would like to acknowledge Melanie and all the other nurses of the George Bray Cancer Center of The Hospital of Central Connecticut and her oncologists Dr. James Hoffman and Dr. Jonathan Cosin for their extraordinary care and compassion during her nine year battle with cancer.
We would also like to acknowledge all of the extremely professional doctors, nurses, and personal care technicians who treated her at Middlesex Hospital and Hospice and Apple Rehab in Middletown.
