Jean McCauley Obituary

Jean T. (Perruccio) McCauley, wife of the late Donald V. McCauley, died at home on February 10, 2013, surrounded by family and loved ones. Jean was born and raised in Middletown, daughter of the late Salvatore and Rose (Bordonaro) Perruccio. Jean was the family matriarch, last surviving sibling of the Perruccio family that immigrated from Mellili, Sicily, early in the 20th century. She was pre-deceased by her brother, Emmanuel ("Doc") and sisters Mary Adametz and Angela Perruccio.
Jean became a hairdresser at age 17 and worked all her life until late last year in that field. She worked at several salons in Middletown, including with her best friend and cousin, Lucy Ott, at Lu's Beauty Shoppe and most notably for over 20 years at The Duchess on Washington Street with Lucy and their good friends Jay Luberti, and Rita Bonvino, and then for many years at Cover Girl Metro in Metro Square. She often remarked that she had been on Main Street for 66 years.
Jean married Donald McCauley in 1948; together they raised their daughter Barbara in the family home on Grove Street in Middletown. Jean is survived by her daughter, Barbara and her husband Carl Franzoni, of Middletown and her grandchildren Suzanne and her husband Andrew Kleeman of Longmeadow, Massachusetts and Michael and his wife Jennifer Franzoni of Cumberland, Rhode Island along with her great-grandchildren Jacob and Spencer Kleeman, and Morgan and Nolan Franzoni.
In accordance with Jean's wishes, a graveside memorial and burial will take place on Saturday, April 6, 2013 at 11 am at Saint Sebastian's Cemetery in Middlefield, where she will be laid to rest along side her beloved husband Donald. Family and friends are invited to join in celebrating her life at her final resting place.
The family requests that Jean's life be honored as she lived it, always putting the needs of others before her own. A Mercy High School Spirit of Catherine Scholarship has been established to commemorate Jean's life. Memorial contributions can be made directly to Mercy High School, Jean McCauley Fund at 1740 Randolph Road, Middletown, CT, 06457. Biega Funeral Home has care of the arrangements. Dear Barbara and Carl,

Your mother was so special in so many ways. The best neighbor and friend you could hope for. I will always remember her Friday night visits with my mother to do her hair at home.

We were blessed to know her and we will all have goood memories that go way back to grove street. We hope your memories are a comfort.

Dear Barbara and family,
Please except my deepest sympathy at this most difficult time, with the loss of your dear mother Jean. I had the pleasure of working with her in Middletown at Command Performance. Jeanie-Beanie always had a smile a mile wide and would give you the shirt off her back. I will always hold fond memories of her in my heart. She always spoke of you and her grandchildren with so much love. Heaven has received a truly wonderful angel.

So sorry to hear of Jean's passing. Jean was so special to me. We would reminisce about Grove Street, since she lived a few houses from my grandparents. I will miss her very much, but her memories will be with me always. Sincerely, Amelia M.
