Joseph S. Franco

Joseph S. Franco, 90, of Middletown, died Wednesday, May 22, 2013, at Middlesex Hospital. Joseph was born in Rollinsford, New Hampshire and lived most of his life in Middletown, CT. In WWII Joseph served our country with the US Army as a Paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Parachute Infantry Regiment 505th Division and was honored with the Military Purple Heart decoration for wounded in action. He completed 21 successful jumps. He and his Parachute Infantry Regiment, the 505th Division were the first into Africa, also lead the invasion of Sicily, Italy, England & France.
Joseph leaves his beloved wife, Isabella M. (Greco) Franco. Joseph is pre-deceased by his daughter, Isabella Michalski, of Middletown & his mother, Rosa Cali and father, Phillip S. Franco; Joseph leaves his two sons, Joseph P. Franco of Middletown and Phillip S. Franco and his wife, Julie Mounds of Manchester, CT; one son-in-law, Edward P. Michalski of Middletown; four grandchildren, Edward J. Michalski and wife Siri Michalski of Boston, MA, Javianna Mounds of Manchester, CT, Rachel Johnson of Denver, CO, & Paul of North Carolina; a brother, James P. Franco, two sisters, Mary Yuniskis & Francis Renock all of Middletown, CT; Joseph is also pre-deceased by three brothers; Anthony, Fred & Salvatore, two sisters; Rose & Barbara all of Middletown. Joseph also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and cousins. A Funeral Service with military honors will be held Saturday morning at 11:00 am at CT State Veterans Cemetery, 317 Bow Lane, Middletown, CT.
