Lewis R. LaRosa, Sr.

1923 - 2013

Lewis R. LaRosa Sr., 90, of Glastonbury passed away on Monday, October 14, 2013 at the Glastonbury Health Center. Born on June 11, 1923 in Meriden, he lived most of his life in Middletown before moving to Glastonbury. Lew was an honorably discharged WW II Navy veteran serving aboard the tanker U.S.S. Niobrara. He was a mason by trade and his craftsmanship can still be seen around the Wesleyan University campus where he was employed. He was also a long time member of the Middletown Elks Club. Lew was the son of the late Sebastian (Dick) LaRosa and Carmelita (Malone) LaRosa of Middletown. He was predeceased by a sister Antoinette M.(D'Yorio) Augeri. He is survived by his long time friend and companion, Gloria Gaskas of Glastonbury; three sons, Lewis R. LaRosa Jr. and his fiancé Tracy Vess of Middletown; Sebastian J. LaRosa and his wife Denise of Portland; and John P. LaRosa of Middletown; five grandchildren, Jason LaRosa of Middletown; Joshua LaRosa of Cromwell; Nicole Burgess of Cromwell; Nicholas LaRosa and Christina LaRosa both of Portland; two great grandchildren; Teagan LaRosa and Brylee LaRosa, both of Middletown. Also his ex-wife and mother of his sons, Elizabeth (Satonick) LaRosa of Middletown.
The funeral will be held on Friday at 10am in the Coughlin-Lastrina Funeral Home, 491 High Street, Middletown. Burial with full military honors will be in the State Veterans Cemetery, Middletown. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday morning from 9am until the time of the service.
