Thomas Moore Obituary

Thomas H. Moore, 92, a native of Middletown, CT., died August 25, 2013, in St Augustine, Florida. Tom is survived by his loving wife of 70 years Betty Daniels Moore, sons, Richard (Cheryl) Moore of St Augustine, Florida and James (Jean) Moore of Seattle, Washington, five grandchildren, Darren (Tracey) Moore, Erica (Eric) Envall, Jennifer (Chris) Polaski, Jessica Moore, Jason (Jen) Moore, seven great grandchildren, Sienna , Nolan and Thomas Polaski, Spencer, Parker and Turner Envall, and Haviland Moore. Tom was preceded in death by his two sisters, Beatrice Hultine and Jeanne Moore.
Tom was an alumnus of Woodrow Wilson High School 1936-1940 where he earned many accolades as an athlete in football, basketball and baseball. He attended New London Junior College and Lowell Technical Institute continuing to play in all three sports. Tom was honored to be inducted into the Middletown Sports Hall of Fame. World War II cut Tom's athletic career short. He enlisted in the Navy Air Corps, commissioned as an Ensign and received his wings in 1943. After 19 months as an instructor of instrument flying, bombing, torpedo run tactics, and formation bombing he was ordered to the Naval Air Transport based in Hawaii and flew many missions to the outer islands of the Pacific. After the war he returned to Middletown to raise his family, pursue a long and successful career in sales and participate in many community organizations which included serving as the president of The Lions Club, Parent Teacher's Association and the Middletown Little League.
The family would especially like to thank the staff of the Clyde Lassen Veterans Home and Elmcroft Assisted Living for all of their exceptional and dedicated care during the last five years. Tom will be remembered as a man who was devoted to his wife and his family and will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew him. A Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held at a future date.

Dear Betty, Dicky, Jimmy & familiy,

It was with real sadness I learned of Tom's passing. Tom was a kind and generous person and gave his time to make the lives of others better. I remember your home on Prout Hill Road and it represented the best of family life. I enjoyed my conversations with Tom and they were always ended with a smile and a laugh. I share your loss and may Tom be granted eternal peace.
May God bless you and your families during this difficult time.

With sincere sympathy,
Bob Treat

Betty and family, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this time. I have good memories of you and Tom hanging out with my parents (Don and Carol) and the Elks. May the good Lord be with you all at this time.

Mr. and Mrs. Moore represent the most loving couple, the finest parents, and two of the most generous fun loving people I have ever known. As a teen they treated me as a daughter. I have thought of them often over the years, and feel very grateful to have spent time with them. My heart goes out to Mrs. Moore, Dick, Cheryl, Jimmy, his wife and all the children. Fondly, Kathy Howie

Mrs. Moore, Dick, Jimmy & Family,
So very sorry to hear of the passing of Mr. Moore. I have so many fond memories of our Little League days in Middletown and our parents always there cheering us on, (go Merchants go). Mr. Moore was a giant of a man who was such a great teacher to all the young boys in the league. If we needed a ride home after any practice or game, Mr. Moore would see to it that we got home safe and sound. I will never forget the love and kindness I received from Mr. and Mrs. Moore during my childhood days and my friendship with Dick and Jimmy. May the good Lord be with the family at such a time as this.

So sad for all of you. Mr. Moore was such a huge personality and a special part of the Wilcox family. One of my fondest memories was him walking the dog Willie in the winter; Willie in his little red sweater. They walked down the hill and then big rough and tough Mr. Moore would carry Willie back up the hill.
