WHALEN, ALTHEA (NICHOLS) Althea (Nichols) Whalen, 85, of Middletown, passed away on Saturday, April 12, at Apple Rehab of Middletown. Born in Keene, NH, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Carolyn (Johnson) Nichols. Althea was an avid Bridge player, active in various local singing groups and enjoyed spending time at the Middletown Senior Center. She is survived by two daughters, Susan Prescott and her husband, Thomas of Charlotte, NC and Janice Kurneta and her husband, Paul of Middletown; a brother, Lawrence Nichols of Portland; two sisters, Jane Delaney of Middletown and Ann Kauder of Los Angeles, CA; five grandchildren, Christopher Prescott, Jason Prescott and his wife, Amanda, Jonathon Prescott, Gregory Prescott and Zachary Kurneta; and three great-grandchildren, Kaili, Baylin and Jenna Rae. Along with her parents, Althea was predeceased by two brothers, Mark and Robert Nichols. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 16 at 11:00am at Doolittle Funeral Home, 14 Old Church Street, Middletown. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Friends may call before the service from 10:00 to 11:00am at the funeral home.
