WILLIAMS, LIZZIE (COOPER) “LIZ” Lizzie “Liz” (Cooper) Williams, 88, of Middletown, wife of the late Sam “Buster” Williams Jr., passed away on Monday, April 14, 2014, at Middlesex Hospital. Liz was born on October 8, 1925, in Hemingway, South Carolina, to the late Ann (Thompson) and Wallace Cooper. In 1966 Lizzie relocated to Middletown, where she was employed at Wesleyan University until she retired. Lizzie accepted Christ as her personal Lord and Savior. She was an active member of Zion First Baptist Church, Middletown, where she sang on the Senior choir and was a member of the Pastor’s aide committee until her health failed. Lizzie leaves to cherish her memories a special grandniece, Debra Cooper of Hemingway, SC; a special nephew, Reverend Wallace (Alvinia) McKnight of Andrews, SC; a loving nephew and his wife, Willis (Margaret) Brown of Middletown; special friends, Ruby Brunson of Meriden and Carolyn Coleman of Middletown; a loving companion of 46 years, Ernest Butts of Middletown; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Lizzie was predeceased by six sisters: Dotise Cooper, Emma Cunningham, Betsey Davis, Heneretta Cooper, Nettie Cooper and Mary McKnight; and one brother, Nelson Cooper. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 22 at 11:00am at Zion First Baptist Church, 16 James A. Moses Avenue, Middletown, with Rev. Carleton J. Giles officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery.
