JOHNSTON, MARY FLOWERS On June 6, at the Village of South Farms in Middletown, Mary Flowers Johnston passed into Heaven to be with the Lord. Preceding Mary in death were her husband, Edward Johnston, her mother Nora Flowers and her father Fred Flowers. Mary leaves her brother, James F. Flowers of Middletown, her niece Mary Ann Flowers, niece Sharon Flowers, niece Noreen Flowers and her son Stephen, and her sister-in-law, Vivian D. Flowers. Mary was employed by SNET (now AT&T) from age 18 until her retirement. Mary was devoted to the Catholic Church and in later years, she held many positions at “Our Lady of Loreto” in Waterbury, CT, where she also taught catechism classes for many years. She served on the Commission on the Status for Women in Hartford for several years. She was honored by Governor O’Neill for her service. We want to thank Middlesex Nursing, the nurses and caretakers from the Village of South Farms, Rachel and others from Hospice who helped Mary get through the last stages of her life. We also thank the Middlesex Health Hospital rehab center on Randolph Rd., Middletown for the good care they gave Mary. There will be no calling hours. A private burial will be held for the family.
