THAYER, DONALD L. Donald L., Thayer, 87, of Sebring FL., passed away June 16, 2014, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born to the late Heber and Marion (Mousch) in Middletown, CT., he graduated from Middletown High School in 1945, and later took several courses in Mechanical Design, Industrial Fluid Power at Cambridge Management Training, gaining college credits. He was a member of the American Society of Tool and Manufacturing Engineers and the AME Society of Manufacturing Engineers. He worked for ten years at Standard Knapp, Portland, CT., as a machine designer of mechanical, electro mechanical and pneumatic automatic packaging equipment and associated accessories. He retired after thirty three years with Raymond Engineering, a subsidiary of Kaman Aircraft, designing mechanical and electro mechanical devises together with electronic packaging for space and military programs. He was married for forty six years to the late Angela Pillarella. He leaves behind three daughters – Diane and husband Joseph Tomassetti of Middletown, DE., Karen Thayer of Middletown, CT., and Barbara and husband Edward Deschaine of Middletown, CT. He was blessed with four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, whom he cherished. Throughout his life he was Pastmaster of Granite Lodge 119, A & FM of Haddam, CT., Vice Chairman of Middletown Redevelopment Agency, Vice President of Junior Chamber of Commerce, Director of Middlesex County Sheriffs’ Association, a Corporator at Middlesex Hospital – working on long range planning. He later married Marie Blake (deceased) and then relocated to Lake Placid and Sebriing, FL., where he was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Lake Placid, FL. Interment will be in the Calvary Cemetery in Middletown, CT. Memorial Contributions may be made to the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer & Research Institute in Tampa, FL.
