INFANTE, DZINTRA (KLAUPIKS) Dzintra (Klaupiks) Infante, 77, of Middletown, beloved wife of Dr. Anthony A. Infante, unexpectedly died after a brief illness on Saturday, July 26th, surrounded by her family at Yale-New Haven Hospital. Born in Jelgava, Latvia, she was the daughter of Adolfs and Rasma (Brektere) Klaupiks, and Sofija (Bets) Klaupiks. She immigrated to the U.S. as a nine-year old girl and grew up in Applebachsville, PA. Dzintra earned a Bachelor’s degree in biology from Westhampton College of the University of Richmond. Dzintra had a long productive professional life in industry and academia as a biochemical research assistant. She worked at the University of Pennsylvania, where she met her future husband, and later at Wesleyan University where they conducted research together in developmental cell biology in the Department of Molecular Biology and Biochemistry. Dzintra and her husband traveled extensively and worked in labs in Davis, CA, Paris, France, and Vienna, Austria. Dzintra was an active and long-time member of the Greater Middletown Chorale. She was an avid bridge player, swimmer, great cook, gardener, and crossword puzzle solver. She enjoyed reading and learning; she went on to earn a Master’s degree from Wesleyan University. The Latvian-American community remained an important part of her life. Her greatest love was for her family. She and Tony raised their four children in Durham, CT. Along with her husband of 50 years, she is survived by two daughters, Sylvia Lecky and her husband, Steven of Middletown, Anita Infante and her husband, Michael Smith of Branford; two sons, Niel Infante and his wife, Nicole of Morgantown, WV, Andy Infante and his wife, Jessmy of San Francisco, CA; and five adoring grandchildren, Emmalyn, Matthew, and Alyssa Lecky and Veronica and Harrison Smith. Family and friends may call on Wednesday evening July 30th from 5:00 – 7:00PM or Thursday morning July 31st from 10:00 – 10:30AM, at Doolittle Funeral Home, 14 Old Church St., Middletown.
