Joseph A. Saporita, 66, husband of Karin Saporita of Merrero, La., passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, Aug. 11, 2012.

Born Aug. 15, 1945, in Westerly, R.I., he was the son of the late Joseph S. Saporita and Evelyn (Santerre) Kurdziel. Joe graduated from Stonington High School in 1963 and attended Wentworth Institute in Boston. He worked as an engineer for Electric Boat in New London and the Avondale Shipping Co. in Los Angeles, San Fransisco and Mississippi. He later worked for North & Grumman Louisiana for many years until his retirement in 2010.
He served in the Armed Forces as an officer in the Army for two years.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Saporita leaves on daughter, Tanya A. (Saporita) Theriot and son-in-law Chad Teriot of Atlanta, Ga.; grandchildren Evan, John-Paul, Katharine and Madeline Theriot, all of Atlanta; two sisters, Maryann (Saporita) Serra and husband Thomas of Middletown, and Sonia Kurdziel of Pawcatuck; three nephews, Jason Serra and wife Jill and son Luca Thomas of East Hampton, and Christopher Serra and wife Amy of South Glastonbury; one uncle, Daniel Santerre and wife Neva of Tupper Lake, N.Y.; as well as many loving cousins.
Internment will be private.
