George Robert Ward(1942 - 2018)

George Robert Ward was born November 1, 1942 in Darby, Pennsylvania.

He graduated from John Bartram High School in 1960 and joined the Navy in 1961. George was on the USS Independence during the naval blockade of Cuba in 1962. He worked for General Electric after leaving the Navy as a mechanical designer, where he met his wife of 50 years, Rosemarie Ingrassia. He later left GE for Amtrak where he worked until he retired a decade ago.

In the 1970s he and his wife were active members of St. Stephens Episcopal Church in Norwood, Pennsylvania, leading the youth group. George loved movies, music, and TV. Any movie, any time often going to the movies by himself, a carryover from childhood when his sisters would drop him off in the morning and pick him up at night. He enjoyed traveling with his wife and friends, having many adventures that he loved to retell.

Since 2011, George and his wife enjoyed volunteering at Amazing Grace Outreach Ministries in Middletown, Delaware, their home for the past 22 years. Amtrak took George and his family to many cities, where they made and kept lots of friends.

George was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer in December 2011. They gave him 6 months to live. He was a strong, stubborn man who fought cancer doggedly for 7 years. He passed quietly Friday, June 1, 2018 at Cornerstone Hospice in the Villages, Florida.

He is survived by his wife Rosemarie, his daughter Susannah, and his sister Evelyn "Candy" Ednie.
