Melvin J. Craig, age 87, of Middletown, DE passed away peacefully surrounded by family at Seasons Hospice, Christiana Hospital, on July 21, 2014.
He was born in Cecilton, MD on May 30, 1927 to the late Margaret Craig Redding and Melvin Wroten.
Melvin was a veteran of the United States
and proudly served his country during
World War II
. After being honorably discharged, he worked at numerous jobs before he began working at
. He went on to work for the Carpenters Local Union 626, where he eventually retired.
Melvin's greatest passion was spending time with his family. He enjoyed crab feasts, baseball games (especially the Phillies), and playing card games. He was an avid pool player, winning a national amateur pool championship in 1996 in Las Vegas. Melvin had a great sense of humor and was often the life of the party. He touched the lives of so many and will be missed dearly by all who knew him.
Melvin is survived by his loving wife of 68 Years, Dorothy Craig; 4 children, Ellen Coleman (Billy), Joyce Hamm, Melvin Craig (Lynn), and Kelvin Craig (Lynn); 9 grandchildren, Billy Coleman, Sharee Coleman, Benjamin Lloyd, William Hamm, Christopher Hamm, Allison Turner, Chad Craig, Kimberly McKelvey, and Kristy Scuse; 2 great-grandchildren, Kieran and Delaney McKelvey, and another due in September; and numerous brothers, sisters, nieces, and nephews.
Services were held at Daniels and Hutchison Funeral Home, 212 N. Broad Street, Middletown, DE on Sunday, July 27 at 2 p.m.
