Evelyn A. Hoffman Born: May 15, 1921 Died: May 29, 2015 Evelyn A. Hoffman, 94, of DeKalb, Illinois, died May 29, 2015, at Kishwaukee Hospital, DeKalb. Born May 15, 1921, at home on the farm near Bloomingdale, Illinois, the daughter of William and Anna (Fraas) Bartels, she married Ralph M. Hoffman at the Good Shepard Church in Elgin, on February 14, 1942 and they were married for 62 years. Evelyn was formerly employed at Brody's Coat Factory in DeKalb, Northern Illinois University in Building Services, and managed the family farm after Ralph passed away. She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in DeKalb for 50 years and a former member of the quilter's guild; she was a member of DeKalb County Farm Bureau. She is survived by her children, Marlene Schoonmaker of Sycamore, Leland (Linda) Hoffman of Cortland, Wesley (Margaret) Hoffman of Columbus, Indiana; seven grandchildren, Thelma Markwart of Shawnee, Kansas, Erica (Jon) Savio of Ticonderoga, New York, Nadia (Spencer) Kahl of Carlinville, Illinois, Julia (Gary) Roberts of Dallas, Georgia, Theresa Hoffman of Atlanta, Georgia, Matthew (Jamie) Hoffman of Columbus, Indiana, Jeremy (Mary) Sterzinger of Princeton, Illinois; 12 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Harold (Betty) Bartels of East Troy, Wisconsin, Ralph (Cindy) Bartels of San Antonio, Texas; one sister, Ruth Gordon of Normal, Illinois; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph in 2003; son-in-law, Earl Schoonmaker; two sisters, Mildred Reque and Bernice Koehring. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 3, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 1915 N. First St., DeKalb, with the Rev. Elizabeth Mascal officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Park Cemetery, DeKalb. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 2, at Anderson Funeral Home in DeKalb. Matthew T. Halverson Born: July 27, 1964 Died: May 24, 2015 Matthew Thomas Halverson, 50, of DeKalb died Sunday, May 24, 2015. He was born July 27, 1964, in DeKalb and was the son of Roger D. and Barbara "Bobbie" (Hart) Halverson. He graduated from DeKalb High School class of 1982 and attended Kishwaukee College. Matt had a seat on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange and worked as a stock trader. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in DeKalb. He was a member of the Alano Club of DeKalb for many years and a member of the DeKalb Moose Lodge #586. He was inspired by and loved music and had an amazing singing voice. Matt had a way of telling funny stories and made everyone around him laugh. He loved spending time and traveling with his nieces. Matt enjoyed his time with his nephews, playing around with them and teaching them new things, because he was such a kid at heart himself. He was a unique, compassionate and loving man. Matt will be missed by all who knew him. Survivors include his mother, Bobbie (Ted McLean) Halverson of DeKalb. Two sisters, Brenda (Joe) Hoiness of DeKalb, Laura (Matt) Viland of DeKalb. Two nieces, Jessica and Katie Hoiness; and two nephews, Abel and Alijah Viland all of DeKalb. One aunt, Mary (Jim) Franklin of DeKalb; and two uncles, William (Kim) Hart of Lee, IL and Jerry (Marcia) Halverson of DeKalb. He was preceded in death by his father, Roger D. Halverson; and his maternal and paternal grandparents. Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, May 28, 2015, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church in DeKalb with Father Dean Russell officiating. Burial will be immediately following the service at Fairview Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 27, 2015, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a wake service at 7:00 p.m. at Ronan-Moore-Finch Funeral Home.
