Christine Auler Born: June 21, 1936 Died: August 29, 2016 Christine Auler, 80, of Peru, died peacefully at 9:57 AM, Monday, August 29, 2016. Prayers for Chris will be at 10:30 AM on Friday, September 2, 2016, at the Barto Funeral Home, Spring Valley, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM Friday, September 2, 2016, at Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church (Mautino Drive location) in Spring Valley. The Rev. Robert Spilman will officiate. Burial will follow at Peru City Cemetery. Visitation for Chris will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 PM on Thursday, September 1, at the funeral home, as well as a half hour before prayers, Friday, at the funeral home. Chris was born on June 21, 1936 in Spring Valley to James P. and Irene Travers Barto. She married Al Auler on July 12, 1969 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Spring Valley. He died on November 4, 1990. Chris was a graduate of Hall High School, Class of 1954. She had been a volunteer for the I-READ literacy program at Illinois Valley Community College. She was a former coach for Peru Girls Softball and CCD teacher at St. Mary's Catholic Church. She also provided housing for Central States Tournament baseball players for many years. Chris loved attending her grandsons sporting events and programs. Survivors include 2 daughters, Susan (Jon) Arbisi of LaSalle and Mary Beth (Jeff) Hess of Dekalb; a brother, James R. Barto of Spring Valley; 2 sisters, Norma Maurer of Torrance, California and Dorothy Maurer of Roseville, California; and 5 grandsons, Evan and Drew Arbisi, and Kyle, Hayden and Seth Hess. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the LaSalle-Peru High School Foundation for Educational Enrichment or to Horizon House. Baker-Gulley, Eva  
Eva Baker-Gulley Born: March 6, 1932 Died: August 29, 2016 Eva Baker-Gulley, 84, of Sycamore died Monday, August 29, 2016 at Kishwaukee Hospital. She was born on March 6, 1932 in New Madrid, MO. to Luther and Dell (Swinney) Brown. She was married to Onnie Gulley. Eva was employed at General Electric, retiring after many years of service. She was an avid reader and loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Survivors include her husband, Onnie Gulley; children, Jean Ann Farris (Judy). Linda Reshel, John Farris (Donna), and Sheila Cantrell (Tom); stepchildren, Dale Bochlund, Kevin Gulley, Debbie Gulley, Jimmy Gulley, and Vicky Hagerman; one brother, Calvin Brown (Barbara); her sisters, Colleen Johnson and Shirley (Ken) Montavon; and by a myriad of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces,nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters, Jody, Sue, Mary, and Donie; and her ex-husband, Buster Farris. A special thanks to Sheena Cantrell who acted in her Grandma's best interest as her medical Powers of Attorney Functionary. A special thank you to Linda Fisher for her acts of kindness. Her funeral service will be on Saturday, Sept. 3rd starting at 11:45 a.m. until 12:05 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, 530 W. State St. in Sycamore, IL, with Reverend Calvin Brown delivering the service. Visitation will be at the Church from 10:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. On Saturday. Lola M. Blahnik Born: November 22, 1943; in Columbus,NE Died: August 26, 2016; in DeKalb, IL Lola M. Blahnik, 72, of DeKalb, Illinois, died Friday, August 26, 2016, at DeKalb County Rehab and Nursing Center in DeKalb. Born November 22, 1943 in Columbus, Nebraska the daughter of Fred C. and Elizabeth (Heyman) Stoddard, Lola married Richard L. Blahnik on February 25, 2005. Lola was employed as a Personnel Assistant at Northern Illinois University for 30 years and later at DeKalb Area Retirement Center until retirement in 2012. Lola sang with First United Methodist Church Chorale. She is survived by her husband, Dick; daughter, Mary Lynn (John) Mapes of DeKalb, Teri O'Connell of Mt. Morris; nine grandchildren; several great grandchildren; brother, Jaral (Cheryl) Stoddard of Granville; step-brother, Chuck (Jan) Rader of Dallas, Texas; step-sons, Adam Blahnik of Colorado, Luke (Crystal) Blahnik, Paul Blahnik both of Chicago; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Art Strasser; sister, Ann Marie Grutter; and brother, Terry Stoddard. The memorial service will be held at 5:00 p.m. Thursday, September 1, at Glad Tidings Assembly of God, 2325 North 1st Street in DeKalb, with the Pastor Sherry Massey officiating. Vera Jane Chambers Born: April 6, 1924; in Steward, IL Died: August 27, 2016; in Bryon, IL Vera Jane Chambers, age 92, passed away on Saturday, August 27, 2016 at the Generations at Neighbors in Byron. She was born on April 6, 1924, in Steward, IL, the daughter of Harry and Lulu (Wagner) Andes. Vera Married Ralph F. Chambers on August 12, 1950 in Steward, he preceded her on April 17, 2013. She is also preceded in death by her parents; and her sister, Ethel Hanson. Vera loved spending time with her family, playing the piano and singing. She also enjoyed tole painting and sewing. Survived by her children, Karen Smith of Rochelle, Diana (Ed) Roeder of Washington, IL, and Alan (Mary) Chambers of Kirkland; 10 grandchildren, Dawn (Richard) Johnson, Kris (Bob) Knight, Brian (Nan) Estes, Bethany (Arlan) Dunnum, Jennifer (Joe) Juskiv, Rebecca Ochs, Mark (Sarah) Roeder, Daniel (Aleia) Chambers, Scott (Jeri) Chambers, and Suzanne (Dan) Rourke; several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, September 1, 2016 at the Unger Horner Funeral Home, 400 N 6th St., Rochelle with Chaplain Judy Williams officiating. Donna L. DeJonghe Born: March 31, 1944; in Melrose Park, IL Died: August 24, 2016; in Genoa, IL Donna L. DeJonghe, 72, of Genoa, died peacefully on Wednesday, August 24, 2016, at her home. She was born March 31, 1944, in Melrose Park. The daughter of Anthony and Lorraine (Rodelli) Santore. Donna worked in Customer Service at Ball Seed Company in West Chicago for many years. Survivors include her sister, Darlene Santore; and her nephew, Michael Anthony Taylor. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edmund; and her daughter, Deena Santore. Her Memorial Mass was on Monday, August 29th at 11:00 AM at the St. Catherine Church of Genoa, 320 S. Stott St., Genoa, IL, with Fr. Donald Ahles officiating. Draper, Willard E.  
Willard E. Draper Born: January 2, 1928 Died: August 22, 2016 Willard E. Draper, 88, of Sycamore, IL, passed away Monday, August 22 at his home. Born January 2, 1928 in Cedar Falls, IA, the son of Paul and Mary (Mincer) Draper. Willard married Jonell Gregston on June 19, 1954 in Chicago, IL. His career at NIU spanned 30+ years in the building maintenance department. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, and served his community abundantly through many philanthropic organizations including: The American Legion, 40/8, DeKalb Elks, DeKalb Lions, and The Free Masons. He was extremely generous and gave willingly to many charities. He was a longtime member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in DeKalb. He is survived by his wife; son, (Shawn); daughter, (Shirley); Grandchildren, (Katie, Emily, Paul, Joe, David, Johnathan, Jessalyn, Christopher); Great Grandchildren, (Noah, Sam, Sophia, Evie, Hannah, Travis) He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, (Bob); and son, (Ken). Services will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 830 N. Annie Glidden Rd. in DeKalb on Saturday, September 3 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Blake Richter officiating. A short memorial and interment of his cremains will follow directly afterwards in the church gardens. Visitation will be Friday September 2 from 5:00 to 8:00pm. Refreshments will be provided.

Diana R. Fabris Diana R. Fabris, age 67 of Cortland went to be with her Lord on Sunday, August 21, 2016 at Bethany Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in DeKalb. Joseph S. Hursh Joseph S. Hursh, died suddenly on Sat., August 20, 2016. Loving father of Molly Hursh; dear brother of Abby (Stephen) Holder; beloved uncle of Cecilia and Eero Holder; precious son of Robert Steve and Linda Hursh; cherished boyfriend, sweetheart, companion, soul mate of Jessica Kime; former spouse of Victoria Fowler Hursh; our dear brother-in-law, nephew, cousin and friend. Joseph was born in DeKalb, IL, graduated from DeKalb High School and received his undergraduate degree from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb. He graduated with his MBA from Western Governor's University. Joseph lived and worked in St. Louis for the past four years. He loved to travel and had the opportunity to travel abroad regularly in his role as international franchise trainer for Build-a-Bear Workshop. Joseph enjoyed scuba diving, kayaking and just about anything having to do with the ocean and water. He was an avid photographer and writer. He also enjoyed cooking, playing his guitar, listening to music and taking in musical and theatrical productions at The Muny and The Fox Theaters in St. Louis. Joseph loved life and loved people and lived everyday to the fullest. Memorial Service will be held August 27, at 6:00 p.m. at Anderson Funeral Home, 2011 South Fourth Street in DeKalb, with Rev. Marty Marks of Immanuel Lutheran Church in DeKalb officiating. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. until the time of services on Saturday. Cremation has taken place.
