SYCAMORE – Esther Marie Broitzman, 88, of Sycamore, Ill., passed away Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014, at home. She is now in the embrace of her Lord Jesus Christ.
Born April 12, 1925, in Rochelle, the daughter of Oscar and Martha (Birkland) Carlson, Esther was a 1943 graduate of Malta High School. She worked at DeKalb County Court House and married Edward Broitzman in 1948. They resided on a farm near Esmond and raised their four children. She later moved to DeKalb and worked for Northern Illinois University for 26 years.
She is survived by her children, Stephen Broitzman of Snowmass Village, Colo., Renae (Bil) Cotton of Carbondale, Colo., Lori (Ken) White of Carbondale and Jamie (Lorrie) Broitzman of Sycamore; grandsons, Eddy (Anna) Cotton of Edwards, Colorado, Zak and Josh White of Carbondale, and Jeremy and Justin Broitzman of Sycamore; sister, Marilyn Jordal of DeKalb; brother-in-law, Leonard Osland of Sycamore; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ed, in 1969; parents; and four sisters, Viola, Lillian, her twin Edith, and Ruth.
A celebration of her life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, at Christ Community Church, 1600 E. Lincoln Highway, DeKalb, with Pastor Paul deHaven officiating. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Creston. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, at the church.
