JARLATH ESTHER AVILA(1936 - 2012)

The family of Jarlath Esther Avila is sad to report the passing of their beloved matriarch on Dec. 17, 2012.

Jarlath was born in Chicago on July 18, 1936, to Charles and Anne Flaws. Her family eventually numbered 11 siblings. She met Jesse Joseph Avila, the love of her life, at age 14, and they were happily married for 57 years. They extolled the virtues of "…for richer, for poorer, through sickness and in heath, til death do us part." Jesse was her rock, her confidante, her caregiver and her biggest supporter during the final 18 months of her 76 years on this earth. He will be her soulmate forever.

Jar embodied what it means to honor and cherish family and friends. She was a mother, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother to many, some of whom didn't even happen to be born within the family. To meet her was to know you were immediately part of her family and would always be welcomed by her.

Left to cherish her memory and honor her testament to life is her beloved Jesse; sons, Michael, and Steve (and his wife Daria); daughters, Denise (and her husband Carl), and Andrea. She will also be missed by her cherished grandchildren: Ken (and his wife Tara), Vanessa, Sarah (and her husband Tony), Stephanie (and her husband Ariel), David, Michelle, and Nicole. Her heart grew even bigger with the addition of her great-grandchildren: Miabella, Amara Loren, Ava Marie, Tinker Belle, Donovan, Cameron, Evelyn, Violetta and Alejandro.

Her beloved surviving siblings, Anna (and her husband Marvin), and Bob (and his wife Joyce) were always in her heart. She will be forever missed by her sister-in-law Connie, and by her many, many special nieces and nephews. They were as precious to her as her own children were. The number of friends whose lives she touched is immeasurable.

She was predeceased by her brothers, Dave, Chuck, Fuzzy and Joe; and by her sisters Marion, Vivian, Geraldine and Josephine; and by her precious Great-Granddaugher, Cecilia.

Please join us in a celebration of a life truly well-lived on Jan. 5, at 11:30 a.m., Hoffman House at the Holiday Inn at 7550 E. State St. in Rockford, Ill. We intend to honor and continue her tradition of living well, loving much, and laughing often.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation in Jarlath's name to the Cancer Center at Kishwaukee Community Hospital, in care of the Butala Funeral Home and Crematory, 1405 DeKalb Ave., Sycamore, IL 60178.
