John E. Minnihan, 64, of Washington, died at Spokane Valley Hospital on Friday, Aug. 3, 2012, after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born Dec. 16, 1947, in Sycamore, to Anna (Ruth) and John (Robery) Minnihan. He was raised by his maternal grandparents, Nora and Edward Troutman's, farm surrounded by uncles and aunts. He graduated from Sycamore High School in 1966.
In August 1967, John enlisted in the United States Air Force
, serving in Vietnam from September 1968 through September 1969. Upon returning to the United Sates, he was stationed at Richards Gebauer AFB, Belton, Mo. On May 16, 1970, he was united in marriage to Patricia A. Bonderman in Primghar, Iowa. For 30 years, he served at bases throughout the United States and Germany, and obtained a bachelor of science degree through Bellevue University.
John retired on Aug. 1, 1998, at Fairchild AFB after 30 years service, attaining the rank of chief master sargeant.
John is survived by his wife, Pat; sons, Craig and Jason and their families in Washington; brother, Mark Stevenson of DeKalb; aunts and uncles, Virginia Troutman of Sterling, Colo., Bessie Troutman of Rochelle, Larry and Lola Troutman of DeKalb and Elmer Troutman of Sycamore; and many cousins.
Entombment was at Eastern Washington State Veterans Cemetery at Medical Lake, Wash. on Aug. 31, 2012.
