ELGIN – Merle Dianne Laird, 69, Elgin, Ill., formally of Sycamore, died on Thursday June 27, 2013.
Born Sept. 2, 1943, in Sycamore, to Merrill and Phoebe (Long) Barnes, Merle attended Sycamore High School and graduated in the class of 1961. She was a secretary at Seymour of Sycamore, a paint and manufacturing company. Merle was a member of the Sycamore United Methodist Church and Order of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by one son, Jeff (Teresa) Laird of St. Peters, Mo., and three grandchildren; Skylar, Samson and Sedrick Laird. She also is survived by one brother, Marvin (Dianne) Barnes, and one sister, Marlene Bryant, both of Sycamore; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews, and Burton Laird, a husband from a previous marriage.
Merle was preceded in death by her parents and a stillborn son, Mark Allen in 1968.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 1, at Olson Funeral & Cremation Services, Quiram Sycamore Chapel, 1245 Somonauk St., Sycamore, with the Rev. Harlene Harden officiating. A visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday, prior to the service at the same location.
Memorials can be made to Tails Humane Society or DeKalb County Hospice.
