DeKALB – Barbara Jenkin, 91, of Sycamore, Ill., passed away Tuesday, April 1, 2014, at DeKalb County Rehab & Nursing Center, DeKalb.|
She was born June 5, 1922, in DeKalb, to Franz and Magdalene Roding. Barbara grew up in Oregon, Ill., and graduated from Oregon High School. She married the late William Jenkin on April 30, 1941. They lived in Oregon for 19 years before moving to Sycamore. Together they purchased Sparkle Cleaners and worked side-by-side for more than 23 years before retiring.
Barbara was a devout Christian and a member of Salem Lutheran Church. She was an avid golfer and spent most of her Saturdays and Sundays on the course with her husband and friends. She also loved to knit and do ceramics and then give her projects to friends and family.
Barbara is survived by three children, Robert (Ivana) Jenkin of Sycamore, Richard (Joyce) Jenkin of Jacksonville, Fla., and Joan (Tyler) Lanning of Sycamore; six grandchildren, Michael Jenkin of Sycamore, Christopher (Karin) Jenkin of Sycamore, Ashley Lanning of Sycamore, Tyler Lanning of Littleton, Colo., John and Jake Jenkin of Jacksonville, Fla.; and four great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Peyton, Alexander and Jillian Jenkin.
Barbara is predeceased in death by her husband William Jenkin, her parents, her sister and her dear friend, Joyce Pflaumer. Private family services will be conducted at a later date.
