DeKALB – Berneice Eichner, 91, DeKalb, Ill., died Thursday, April 17, 2014, in Oak Crest Retirement Center.|
Berneice was born Dec. 21, 1922, to Asa H. and Lydia (Rieker) Piper. She attended schools in Ohio, Ill., and graduated from Ohio High School. She attended beauty school and became a licensed beautician, working out of her home in Ohio, Amboy and Dixon. She loved sewing and was an excellent seamstress, making many clothing items for herself and family members. She excelled in everything she did and will be remembered for always being on the go. She spent many winters in Texas with Harold Eichner. She married Marvin Sisler on June 28, 1942, and later married Harold Eichner in May 1989. Both husbands have predeceased her. Berneice was a member of The Evangelical Lutheran Church of St. John in Sycamore, and she was a very active member of the DeKalb Area Christian Women's Club from 1971-2009.
She is survived by a daughter, Carol (Aaron) Lenz, Cortland, Ill.; a daughter in law, Diane Sisler, Wheaton; a brother, Asa Curtis "Bub" Piper, Woodstock; a sister, Marjorie Mabry of Chesapeake, Va.; seven grandchildren, Brent (Mary) Kapper, Monterey, Calif., Aaron Kapper, Champaign, Daniel Kapper, DeKalb, Kimberly Kapper, Cortland, Steve (Anji) Sisler, Palatine, Mark (Liz) Sisler, Indian Head Park, and Wendy (Jeremy) Myers, Salem, Ore.; step-grandchildren, Josiah (Abbi) Lenz, Geneva, Dara Lenz, Madison, Wis., Judah Lenz, West Minster, Colo., and Levi Lenz, Cortland. She is also survived by 15 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Marvin Sisler and Harold Eichner; a son, Alan Sisler; and a brother, Harlan Piper.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday April 23, 2014, in The Evangelical Lutheran Church of St. John, Sycamore, with the Rev. Robert W. Weinhold and Rev. Marvin Metzger, co-officiating.
A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday April 22, 2014, in Olson Funeral & Cremation Services, Ltd. Sycamore Quiram Chapel, 1245 Somonauk St., Sycamore. Burial will be private in Elmwood Cemetery, Sycamore.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to her favorite charities, Moody Bible College, Stone Croft Ministries or Evangelical Lutheran Church of St. John, Sycamore.
