Catherine (Kay Banta) Kribs, 100 yrs old.
Funeral Services and Mass for Kay Kribs, 100, of DeKalb, Illinois will be held at 11:00am, Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at St. Mary Catholic Church, 329 Pine St. DeKalb. The family will greet friends prior to the Mass, at 10:00am, at the church. Mrs. Kribs passed away Friday, December 28th, 2018 in DeKalb, IL.
Kay was born in Lincoln, Illinois on January 15th, 1918. The family moved to DeKalb, where Kay attended school at St. Mary Grade School and DeKalb High. Kay later moved to Chicago, where she attended Beauty School and married Lester Banta. Lester passed away in September, 1962. Kay then married Raymond Kribs in DeKalb Illinois; he passed away in August, 1993.
Kay had been a beautician since 1939, studying Advanced Hairstyling in New York, Chicago, Canada, Paris, France and Hamburg, Germany. A highlight of her professional training was when she studied under Vidal Sassoon. She was a past member of the National Hairdressers Association and a past President of the DeKalb Hairdressers Association. Kay owned several shops in the DeKalb area.
Kay was a life-long bingo player and active member of the church. She loved to travel, and was especially thrilled to visit her beloved Croatia. She cherished baking her famous Amish sugar cookies for her family and friends, and they were enjoyed by all. In her spare time, Kay stayed busy reading, playing golf and meeting friends for coffee at McDonald's.
In addition to her parents and husbands, Kay was preceded in death by her sisters, Amanda and Eva, as well as her brother John.
Kay is survived by her children, Thomas A. Banta and his wife, Kathy of DeKalb, Illinois and Timothy Banta and his wife, Lois of Council Grove, Kansas. She also is survived by her three step children, Kathy Gamble and Beth Mitchell of Elgin, Illinois and Sue Sinclair of Winfield, Illinois. As well as, five grand-children, six step-grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren and six step-great- grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mary Catholic Church, 329 Pine St. DeKalb, IL 60115. The family of Kay would like to thank the staff of DeKalb County Rehab & Nursing Center for all the loving care they provided over the years.
