Cleon J. Elmore, 87, of Rockford, Illinois, formerly of DeKalb, died Wednesday, January 30, 2019, at Cherry Vale Place in Rockford.

He was born on August 12, 1931, in Jacksonville, Illinois, the son of Julius and Ruth (Bell) Elmore. Cleon married Frances Watson on September 26, 1954.

Cleon was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Korean Conflict. He received his Bachelor's Degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Illinois. Cleon was employed by Caterpillar at Mossville for 35 years.

He is survived by his wife, Frances; two sons, Douglas Elmore of Kirkland, Daniel (Terry) Elmore of Rozwell, Georgia; three grandchildren, Mary Elmore, Christina Elmore, Francis Elmore; two brothers, Rodney (Jene) Elmore, Jack (Bert) Elmore; one sister, Sallee Prieto; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his sons, Duane and David Elmore; and his parents.

Memorial Services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, February 3, 2019, at Anderson Funeral Home in DeKalb, with the Rev. Carl Rasmussen of the First Lutheran Church in Kirkland officiating and with full military honors by DeKalb American Legion Post 66. Burial of cremated remains will be at a later date at Fairview Park Cemetery in DeKalb. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. until the time of services at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, February 3, at Anderson Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Cleon J. Elmore Memorial Fund, addressed to the Elmore Family in care of Anderson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 605, 2011 South Fourth Street, DeKalb, IL 60115.
