Douglas Leroy Hooker Obituary
Douglas Leroy Hooker

Born: February 11, 1967

Died: January 4, 2019

Douglas Leroy Hooker was born on February 11, 1967 in sunny Pasadena, CA. Shortly after his birth, he was welcomed into the home of his adoptive parents, Clavie and Paulette Hooker, where he would be joined by his older brother, Donald and his younger sister, Dionne. He affectionately referred to his younger sister, Dionne as his "Angel." He received his primary education in Pasadena, and graduated from John Muir High School in June of 1985, where he was known for having the "Best Eyes" in the senior class, a trait for which he was infamous for for years to come.

Shortly after graduation, Douglas completed three semesters at Glendale Community College before transferring to his Alma Mater, San Jose State University. As a Receiver on the SJSU football team, he earned various accolades including Team Captain, Most Inspirational and Most Improved. In addition to being a star football player, on March 10, 1988, Douglas became a pledge of the Delta Rho Chapter of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. of where, along with his pledge brothers, he would become a Kappa Man for life.

In 1993, Douglas met Jayanne Zabarte, his would be Wife, mother of his children, and love of his life up until his departure. They were married on September 9, 1995 in Santa Clara County, witnessed by their family and friends, including Jayanne's young daughter, Saige, of whom Douglas would later adopt and raise as his own. The couple welcomed their son Dion in 1996, and Douglas devoted many years to being the most reliable, formative and generous father and husband that he could be.

Douglas got his professional start in 1990 at Pepsi Cola Bottling Group, and continued in his career at Del Monte Foods, where he would serve as a Director for over fifteen years. Especially present in his final years, Douglas was a man of the Lord, and his true passion lay in helping people. From volunteering as a football coach to middle schoolers, to giving athletes advice at track meets, to serving as a counselor at Hope Haven; leading up to his final years where he dedicated a majority of his time and efforts speaking and leading community groups at Christ Community Church. Douglas was the kind of person who would literally give you the shoes off of his feet.

Ready to serve His Kingdom, the Lord welcomed Douglas into his heavenly home on Friday January 4th, 2019, just over a month short of his 52nd birthday.

Douglas was preceded in his heavenly promotion by his parents Clavie "LeVon" Hooker and Paulette Hooker; and his sister, Dionne.

He leaves to cherish his irreplaceable memory his loving wife, Jayanne; daughter, Saige; son, Dion; stepmother, Rosita; and step-siblings, Ron and Justine; along with a host of cousins, friends and loved ones.

He will forever be remembered as the God-loving man with the million dollar smile, and a heart as pure as gold.

Services will be held at 10:00am on Saturday January 12, 2019 at Christ Community Church in St. Charles, IL.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the family or to Christ Community Church in Douglas' name.
