DeKALB – Helen Mae McCarroll, 88, of DeKalb, Ill., died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013, at home, surrounded by her family.|
Born Jan. 2, 1925, in Mount Pleasant, Ohio, the daughter of Ralph B. and Helga V. (Westberg) McCue, Helen married Gene D. McCarroll on Sept. 2, 1955, in Maple Park.
She was employed in turn at J.V. Patton, Turner Brass and DeKalb County Courthouse, all in Sycamore, and finally for 18 years as a secretary/receptionist by Virgil Cook Electrical, from which she retired.
Helen was baptized in the Methodist church.
Helen enjoyed doing paint-by-numbers artwork and puzzles, and playing bingo. Spending time with her grandchildren was the highlight of her life.
She is survived by her husband, Gene; daughters, Elaine McCarroll of Elgin, Debbie (Adrian) Plapp of Malta and Beth Ann McCarroll of DeKalb; grandchildren, Jessica Riippi, Emily, Kendall and Claire Plapp, and Evan Suitts; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and two sisters.
The graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 2, at Elmwood Cemetery, Sycamore, with the Rev. W. Michael Massey of Glad Tidings Assembly of God, DeKalb, officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 1, at Anderson Funeral Home, DeKalb.
