CORTLAND – Jerry A. Brantley, 69, of Cortland, Ill., went to be with the Lord after a severe heart attack on Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012, at Kishwaukee Community Hospital.|
Born on Nov. 4, 1943, in Fairbury, Ill., he was the son of Troy and Esther (Kullman) Brantley. He married Charlotte J. Rodgers on Sept. 5, 1985.
Jerry was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in Vietnam. He was employed at Caterpillar in Montgomery for many years. Jerry was a hard worker and enjoyed keeping busy. During his free time, he liked to go fishing and enjoyed the outdoors.
He is survived by his wife, Charlotte; four children from a previous marriage with Marie Brantley: Elicia Brantley, Ramona (Mark) Balsdon, Anthony (Kori) Brantley and Joshua Brantley; 11 grandchildren, Elizabeth Smith, Hannah, Victoria, Blain, Natasha and Kristian Brantley, William Balsdon, Jacob, Niomi, Fiona and Charlotte Brantley; three brothers, Donald, Troy Carl and David (Carrie) Brantley, all of DeKalb; one sister, Carol "Sis" (Gary) Peterson of Waterman; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister in infancy.
His funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, at the Butala Funeral Home and Crematory in Sycamore, with Rev. Dr. Daniel Diss officiating, with full military rites. Burial will be private.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of service Saturday at the funeral home.
