TUCSON, Ariz. – Joan Claire (Meidl) Jagodzinski, 80, of Tucson, Ariz., born Nov. 15, 1933, in Aniwa, Shawano County, Wis., to Ernest and Annie (Hanne) Meidl, passed away Feb. 16, 2014, in Tucson.|
She had one sister, Gladys (Donald). Joan moved to Harvard, Ill., in 1951, and was employed by the Illinois Bell Telephone Co. as an operator. There, she met and married the love of her life, Norbert "Tony" Jagodzinski, April 11, 1953. She was the mother of two sons, Denis and Steve. Joan retired from the McHenry County Assessor's Office after 22 years of service and moved with her husband to Tucson in 1991.
Joan loved to give her time to many worthy causes, doing volunteer work with various theaters, St. Mary's Hospital, Tucson, the Salvation Army, Tucson, PGA and LPGA tournaments, the Jerry Lewis Telethon and the Tucson Estates paper. Joan also was active with the Pima County Board of Elections as a judge. She was a member of Red Hat Society, Illinois, and Wisconsin Clubs of Tucson Estates; and she also was an avid world traveler.
She is survived by her two sons, Denis (Jill) Jagodzinski and Steve (Deborah) Jagodzinski; three grandchildren, Joe (Marzy) Viverette, Jessica and David Jagodzinski; one great-grandchild, Madeline Elizabeth; sisters-in-law, Patricia (Bill) Gibson and Delores (Patrick) Slowey; and many nieces and nephews.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents; sister; husband; sister-in-law, Virginia Gehrke; three brothers-in-law, Larry Jagodzinski, David Jagodzinski and Arnold Gehrke; and one nephew.
A memorial service was held Feb. 19, at Tucson Estates. Locally, friends and family may call at a memorial service to be held from 5 to 8 p.m. March 14, at Saunders & McFarlin Funeral Home, 107 W. Sumner St., Harvard, IL 60033. A Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. March 15, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 206 E. Front St., Harvard, followed by a graveside interment of both Joan and Norbert (Tony) Jagodzinski at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery.
