Karl L. Ryan, 82, of DeKalb, died Monday, January 7, 2019, at his home.

He was born June 8, 1936, in DeKalb, the son of Glen and Eva (Shewmaker) Ryan. Karl married Wilda Stiles on June 9, 1956 in Sycamore.

Karl was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

He was employed as a driver by United Parcel Service for 34 years and previously worked for Wurlitzer. Karl was a member of DeKalb High School's first wrestling team, a DeKalb Wrestling Hall of Famer, and a member of the runner-up State Cross Country team. He was a member of the DeKalb Elks, the Moose Club, Club 55 and volunteered at his grandchildren's schools.

He is survived by his wife, Wilda; three daughters, Pamala (Clarke) Cubbage, Karla (Dan) Walt, Coreena Ryan; six grandchildren, Lindsey (Ryan) Wallin, NaTasha Ryan, Tyler Walt, Alisha Perez, KaLee Hertzner, Shiloh Ryan; two great-grandchildren, Klara and Liam Wallin; two sisters, Barb Haile and Ilene Sanders; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and his dog, Winston.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers and sisters.

Memorial Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Saturday, January 12, 2019, at Anderson Funeral Home in DeKalb.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Karl L. Ryan Memorial Fund, addressed to the Ryan Family, in care of Anderson Funeral Home, Ltd., P.O. Box 605, 2011 South Fourth Street, DeKalb, IL 60115.
