DeKALB – Marion Louise "Mary Lou" Heal, 89, of DeKalb, Ill., died Saturday, May 3, 2014, at Oak Crest DeKalb Area Retirement Center, DeKalb.|
Mary Lou was born Dec. 7, 1924, at DeKalb Public Hospital to Jorgen Jensen and Ane Marie (Udesen) Jorgensen. She was the youngest of five children. Her childhood was spent in rural Esmond, where she developed a love for the outdoors. She attended a one-room school throughout her grade school years; she attended DeKalb High School, graduating in 1941. After graduation, Mary Lou worked as a secretary in the Admissions Office at Northern Illinois University.
In 1953, she began her career at the First National Bank of Malta. She thoroughly enjoyed working with the local community for the next 55 years, retiring from Resource Bank in 2008. Mary Lou loved flowers and gardening, music, animals, cooking, needlework of any kind, and travelling. Most of all, "Grandma Lou" loved her grandchildren.
Mary Lou married Alvin "Bib" Halverson in 1947; he predeceased her in 1970. In 1975, she married Melvin Heal; Melvin predeceased her in 1980; she was also predeceased by her two brothers and two sisters.
She is survived by her three children, Lisa (Doug) Nelson, Marilyn Halverson and Jack (Becky) Halverson; and grandchildren, Carl, Daniel, Sarah, Emily and Keeley. She was blessed with one great-grandson, Colin.

The funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 7, at Anderson Funeral Home, 2011 S. 4th St., DeKalb, with the Rev. Ray Krueger of Immanuel Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be at noon Thursday, May 8, at Malta Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. until the time of service, Wednesday, May 7, at Anderson Funeral Home, DeKalb.
