SYCAMORE – Nancy Wirsing, 75, of Sycamore, Ill., died Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014, at her home.|
She was born Jan. 7, 1939, in Rochelle, the daughter of George V. and Eva Marie (McCaslin) Hardesty.
She graduated from Sycamore High School and worked for Northern Illinois University as a secretary for 12 years. Nancy married David A. Wirsing on March 5, 1960, at Burlington Methodist Church. She was a member of Sycamore United Methodist Church and Illinois Pork Producer's Women's Association. Nancy enjoyed going to the YMCA for their "Mermaids" water exercise class for many years.
She is survived by four children, Mark David (Elizabeth) Wirsing of Bloomington, Ind., Angela Kay (Thomas) Mecklenburg of Sutter, Susan Marie (Scot) Rankin of Sycamore and Steven Eugene (Virgina Velazquez) Wirsing of Sycamore; 12 grandchildren, Scott, Jeff, Rachel, Audrey Wirsing, Clint, Jasmine, Karly, Melina Mecklenburg, Emma, Andrew Rankin, Milo and Clara Wirsing; step-grandchildren, Wesley and Justin Parker; one great-grandchild, Jayde Philips; one sister, Lori (Ray) Byro of Sycamore; two brothers, Bruce (Donna) Hardesty of Sycamore and George "Bill" (Gerlinde) Hardesty of Las Vegas; two sisters-in-law, Carol (Raymond) Larson of Sycamore and Kay (Barry) Schrader of DeKalb; and many nieces and nephews.
Nancy was predeceased by her parents; husband in 2003; two brothers, Richard and Gary Hardesty.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, at Sycamore United Methodist Church, 160 Johnson Ave., Sycamore, with the Rev. GaHyung Kim and the Rev. Harlene Harden, co-officiating. A memorial visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. Interment will be at Elmwood Cemetery at a later date.
