Walter C. Lambert, 96, of DeKalb, Illinois, died Monday, April 24, 2017, at Oak Crest DeKalb Area Retirement Center.
Born February 2, 1921, in DeKalb, the son of George and Nellie (Rich) Lambert, Walter married Janice Swansbro on November 17, 1956, in Rockford, Illinois.
Walter graduated from DeKalb Township High School Class of 1938. He farmed throughout his lifetime, and in early years, worked in real estate and in the trucking business with his brother-in-law, Wayne Taylor. Walter was a member of the First Congregational Church of DeKalb, DeKalb County Farm Bureau, Prime Timers, and a life-long member of the DeKalb Elks Club. He enjoyed spending time with his family, and at his cottage in St. Germain, Wisconsin.
He is survived by his wife, Janice; daughter, Susan Foose of DeKalb; son, David Lambert of DeKalb; grandchildren, Nicholas (Beth) Foose of Genoa, Anthony (Sophie Cormier) Foose of DeKalb, Kristen (Ryan) Lyle of Vista, California; great-grandson, Wyatt Foose; brother, Milton Lambert; and brother and sister-in-law, Donald (Charlene) Swansbro of Rockford.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters; five brothers-in-law; and three sisters-in-law.
The Memorial Service was held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 28, 2017, at Anderson Funeral Home in DeKalb, with Rev. Joe Gastiger of the First Congregational Church of DeKalb officiating. Burial of cremated remains will follow at Fairview Park Cemetery in DeKalb. Visitation was from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, April 27, 2017 at Anderson Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Walter C. Lambert Memorial Fund, addressed to the Lambert Family in care of Anderson Funeral Home, Ltd., P.O. Box 605, 2011 South Fourth Street, DeKalb, IL 60115.
