PITTSFIELD – Gene Alan Bowman, 75, of Pittsfield, Ill., passed away Monday, Dec. 17, 2012, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy. |
Born April 14, 1938, in Pleasant Hill, a son of Wilfred P. and Virginia R. Braymen Bowman, Gene married Karen Smith on June 19, 1959, in Batavia, and she survives.
Gene served in the U.S. Army during peacetime. Before retiring in 1986, Gene work for GTE, serving as director of service operations and terminal operations for 29 years first in the Genoa area, later moving to Huntsville, Ala. He was raised a Baptist and attended the Independence Christian Church. Gene was a member of Old Orchard Country Club and enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing and yard work. He was a fan of University of Alabama football, the St. Louis Cardinals and enjoyed country music.
He is survived by his wife Karen; son, Gene M. (Elizabeth) Bowman of Huntsville; daughters, Ginger Renee (Rick) Wiegartz of Kingston and Kellie Colleen (Shawn) Reed of Wildwood, Mo.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandsons. One brother, Larry (Anne) Bowman of Gainsville, Fla., survives in addition to one niece, one nephew and several cousins.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 21, at Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield. Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. before the service at the funeral home. Interment will be at Maple Cemetery in Kirkland.
Memorials are suggested to be made to the Independence Christian Church or the Parkinson Foundation.
