1925 - 2013 Obituary Condolences
DeKALB – Martha Elaine Wallis, 88, of DeKalb, Ill., died Friday, June 28, 2013, at Pine Acres Rehab & Living Center, DeKalb.
Born April 28, 1925, at Glidden Hospital, in DeKalb, the daughter of Fred B. and Blanche (Larson) Needham, Martha married E. Gene Wallis on May 26, 1945, in DeKalb.
Martha's greatest joy in life came from caring for her husband and family. She enjoyed entertaining and was "famous" for her spaghetti and potato salad. She was a member of First Baptist Church, DeKalb.
The family thanks Martha's caregivers at Pine Acres.
She is survived by her daughters, Carol Ansteth of DeKalb and Jeanie (Joel) Petersen of Geneva; grandchildren, Stacey (Paul) Seldal of Malta, Kristi Ansteth of Madison, Wis., Julie Ansteth of Rochelle, Bob Ansteth Jr. of DeKalb, Corey (Stacey) Ansteth of Rochelle, Kyle Petersen of Kansas City, Mo., Abigail Petersen of Chicago and Sadie Petersen of Geneva; great-grandchildren, Brittany Seldal, Cody and Jade Ansteth, Lexi Larsen, and Gavin, Kendall and Quentin Ansteth; sisters, Charlotte Clark of Rochelle and Alice (Spence) Smith of Davis; several nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law, Lydia Wallis of DeKalb and Ginny Needham of Mesa, Ariz.; brother-in-law, Jerry Rubeck of Genoa; and her good friend and tablemate, Carol Maynard.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene, in 2002; brothers, Bill and Don (Jug) Needham; sister, Linda Rubeck; son-in-law, Bob Ansteth; and brother-in-law, Bill Wallis
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 2, at Anderson Funeral Home, DeKalb. Burial will follow at Fairview Park Cemetery, DeKalb. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at Anderson Funeral Home, DeKalb.
